I reckon they'll collect more money this way, not in the first few weeks but over course of the year - stay tuned for "Camelot" (or whatever their name now is) to announce higher profits for shareholders...

Its still Camelot but it is owned by the Ontario Teachers' Pension Fund. Has been for a few years now.

The sole reason most people buy lottery tickets is for the remote chance of winning the jackpot (although maybe many punters don't fully appreciate how remote their chances are).

The lesser prizes, even for five and the bonus, are derisory considering their odds and hardly worth taking into account.

So on that basis, "flattening" the prize distribution, if this involves reducing the jackpot, is bad psychology even if it sounds fairer and increases the number of piddling little prizes.

Does anyone here actually do the lottery? I've never done it, wouldn't have a clue how to! Surely, there's no point?

Maybe a couple of times in my life. I'd only really be tempted to buy a ticket to a gigantic rollover or Euro-jackpot or something, but never have.
