                  1. The grass always seems greener somewhere else but it's swings and roundabouts. E.g. compared to Germany pay is good and taxes are lower. But cost of living is lower in Germany as it has to be.

                  2. Australia was booming. The commodity boom is winding down now. And Australia is at heart a dull provincial place.

                    A lot of families like dull and safe. Big house, big garden, walk to the beach. Swimming pool. Big shiny 4x4 on the drive. Outdoor sporty lifestyle. Simples!

                    They are not interested in some obscure theatre or mingling with 3rd world murderers and being Bohemian with their Islington architect chums.
