First respondent is from our renting squirrel-botherer in Brum. CUK should charge for this service.

Oooh, me too! Sounds like we have a lot in common mate! (By the way, I've PMd you).

Bet he had lovely rough hands after his trip to the North Pole. All that frostbite (though let's hope he wore a Peter Heater when he was up there as I fear he wouldn't have much left in the ticket office otherwise)

I want to buy my first place in London and was wondering where can I buy that:

        - has the feeling of central london
        - is within easy commute of the city and canary wharf, preferably by bicycle or a non-central line tube journey
        - I won't get stabbed / robbed / raped
        - costs between 350 - 400k for something better than a studio flat
        - will increase in value at a reasonable level compared with the rest of London

May be able to get some more if I can convince someone to take into account my girlfriends 22k tax free phd stipend (ends next year and she'll have to get a job / postdoc).

        Thanks!
Interesting question - I've been looking at property recently...just can't help it. It's in my blood.
IMO look at Forest Hill/Honor Oak, S.E London.
15/20 minutes to central London by train and soon to be Cross-railed which ought to raise value.

2 bedroom flat for sale in Forest Hill London SE23, SE23
2 bedroom end of terrace house for sale in Elsinore Road, Forest Hill, SE23, SE23
        Hard Brexit now!

Forest Hill ok if you never venture out at night, and don't mind wearing a stab vest
          Doing the needful since 1827

In Honor Oak, this slightly different one:

2 bedroom terraced house for sale in Laundry Mews, Herschell Road, Forest Hill, SE23, SE23
            Hard Brexit now!

I'm looking between Shoreditch and Haggerston and that it is about what you get for you money. Having spent a few years renting in Fulham / West Brompton whilst at university I would love to return there but really can't afford to. I could work for another 3 - 5 years and then try and get my first property I think getting on the ladder early is the soundest thing to do.

Has anybody here ever been stabbed in Bermondsey? I've heard some bad things but it can't be so bad, right?

Wait for one of the old ex council flats next door to the antique dealers in Lillie Road, they're affordable if a little cramped for Fulham
