That's an interesting approach. Is this for going direct?"I can put any old tat in my sig, put quotes around it and attribute to someone of whom I've heard, to make it sound true."

Both for direct and through agents; NL clientcos and agents want a covering text on the CV, so the advice I got has helped with that.Originally posted by cojak View PostThat's an interesting approach. Is this for going direct?
It's common sense. I'm good at testing and starting to be almost OK at process technology and PLC stuff, but I'm a bit poo when it comes to explaining why I'm a better choice than the next CV. Some people are brilliant at writing text that persuades people to buy crap they don't need, so I hire someone with that skill to help me persuade clientco my CV is the one for them. Your CV is your company brochure. Look at how much attention succesful businesses pay to having a good brochure with text that pulls in the customers; they use freelance textwriters to do that, and those guys work for about the same rates as many of us do.Last edited by Mich the Tester; 3 September 2013, 10:37.And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? I get my CV regularly reviewed by contacts who are hiring managers. That's professional enough for me.

Sorry, I think the Brits call them 'copywriters'; hire one for two hours, it'll cost you a hundred quid or so, and see if it works. If it doesn't help then you haven't lost much, but it might be worthwhile.Originally posted by cojak View PostI get my CV regularly reviewed by contacts who are hiring managers. I would have to research it as any company advertising a 'Professional CV Writing Service' would be automatically crossed off the list.Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostSorry, I think the Brits call them 'copywriters'; hire one for two hours, it'll cost you a hundred quid or so, and see if it works. But a proper copywriter is quite a good idea."I can put any old tat in my sig, put quotes around it and attribute to someone of whom I've heard, to make it sound true."

Indeed, because that's a proper profession; any fool can call himself a 'CV writing service'.Originally posted by cojak View PostI would have to research it as any company advertising a 'Professional CV Writing Service' would be automatically crossed off the list.

Ooooooh yeah! Agree with this timeseleventymillioninfinitys and would even say it's tame. Can I add:Originally posted by MaryPoppins View PostI also hate people who attempt to engage me in small talk, people who invade my personal space, people who comment on my food, people who say 'Sorry!' when they've no reason to, people who aren't punctual, people who think they're hilarious, people who use 'LOL', people who don't use the 'Next Customer' divider at the checkout, and people who slurp hot drinks.
- Permies who get entwined in their employer like it's their own company
- People who watch X fukktor strictly come dancing on ice in the jungle and TALK ABOUT THEM AT F***ING WORK

Do you have any more MP?

People who wear bluetooth headsets all the time
People who drive Vauxhall Insignias
People who use the latin 'AM' or 'PM' in conjunction with specifying whether they mean morning or afternoon. e.g. 'I will see you there at 10am in the morning'
People who sing along to songs being played on the radio. Especially awful if they sing for a prolonged period and/or close their eyes.Practically perfect in every way....there's a time and (more importantly) a place for malarkey.
