There is that, a cutter shattered on a milling machine I was working on whilst learning this stuff, small bit of metal got shot into my wrist, blood squirting everywhere, operation to get the metal removed the next day. Lost sensation in most of my right hand for a year so it was not all bad.Comment

Talking to a neighbour who is a gas safe heating engineer and plumber (he's also a fully qualified sparky) and he's hardly at work. Turns out after fixing a boiler he offers a pay monthly service like British Gas to cover call outs and repairs. He's got loads of local BTL landlords subscribing and this income means apart from the odd failure and once a year servicing he doesn't need to work.
Anyone thinking of leaving IT might consider this option.Comment
