Are techie types generally thick, indecisive and opinionated?

I once attended a training course which grouped people into personalities.

All the techies ended up in the category that carefully analysed all of the data and made informed decisions based on it. There was a tendency with complex issues to go into information overload and freeze because there was no clear best solution.

All the Managers ended up in the group that would make a snap decision because something needed to be done. If the system was overly complex they would just pick an opion at random and rely on the techies to make it work.

You would think, but techies seem to be able to have a mega strong opinion on everything, but unable to apply that to their own lives when it comes to making a decision.

Now, what car shall I buy? I just can't seem to decide..it's so tricky, so many competing pieces of conflicting data..

I think that's because sometimes they can't reconcile the fact that the car (or whatever) that they actually want doesn't make sense. The logical nature of techies means that it should be easy to compare all the details and pick the best one but that isn't how we choose things. We pick the one we like best, even if it is statistically poorer in some way. I can deal with that, but not everyone can.

Just because techies are inherently more logical it does not compute that this is a particularly desirable trait.

Lets look at the facts

Most techies have crap social skills
Most techies are ugly and cannot attract woman
Most techies are replaceable by cheap offshore resources
Most techies have small houses and are poor
Most techies don't lose their virginity until the age of 30 unless they have used Rhyponol and not been caught
Most techies who have used Rhyponol and have gone to prison will become the bitch of some big black yardie guy called Desmond who has never heard of Norman Beaton and so therefore that hilarious comparison is not going to save then from becoming known as Shirley on the prison landing.
