There's definitely scope for something in this space. I was a Governor at my local Primary and became unofficial 'IT Governor'. Obviously IT is a crucial part of modern education, and I supported the member of teaching staff who looked after the laptops, server, network and so forth, so he could spend his time being more educationally productive. Certainly Primaries are left to do their own thing, I had to devise backup, AV and firewall policies, find a local support firm to keep them up and running when I was not around, without getting ripped off, and get the school's Admin PC talking to the patchwork of online services the local education authority require schools to use. It occurred to me that there was an opportunity there for a firm to specialise in providing such services to schools.

However I was already CRB checked (and indeed, I have a PGCE) and part of the management team. You would not believe the amount of bureacracy a Head has to go through before she can spend money, and there's not a lot of money available, so costs and barriers to entry would be high and incomes low, I suspect.

I'll offer my bench time, gladly, but its amounted to 7 weeks in the last decade :-)
My subconscious is annoying. It's got a mind of its own.

Even BA's have skills which can be used in the real world (tea making, room booking, getting a projector etc. )

Bear in mind that the document is 2 years old - it mentions, for example, that builders etc. don't need CRB but certainly at our school they all do, which companies then use to bump up their prices.

It also says "CRB checks for volunteers"
Not for profit does not mean unpaid.

I spend most of my life trying to get away from children.

As for putting something back, the UK has totally destroyed my life and is clearly and the downhill slide. A vote every 5 years to give a choice between 2 identical parties neither of whom are prepared to take anything like the right action to let us compete against Asia.

They could make a good start by bringing back the cane in secondary schools. It only takes one disruptive to child to wreck 30 children learning.

I think the volunteers entering schools are unpaid. In which case https://www.gov.uk/government/news/f...for-volunteers is valid.

So the people on this thread offering to get involved are doing so at no charge?
