          one was incompetent the other is immoral.

          if you have seen the fear in people's eyes when they really don't have enough cash to make it to the end of the month you would see the difference. And don't be silly most of us are well off and have no problem with not having enough money.

            But assuming Northern Rock paid interest, that's not allowed under Islam either. That's why you get Sharia-compliant accounts which pull some fancy trickery and call the interest something else.
