The appeal from the keeper wasn't half-hearted at all.

And both sides are pretty much stuck with Aleem Dar for the next 9 matches, since there aren't enough elite umpires available to stand in Ashes tests.

Either Erasmus or Dar (or both) are either going to be standing in the middle or 3rd umpires every test between now and the end of the next Ashes series, which could be "interesting"

He's been umpire of the year for the past three years.

He should have given Broad out when he didn't walk, but that doesn't make him a bad umpire overall.

With the current make-up of the elite umpiring panel, he has to have a role in this series and the next, so rather than bleating about it, the Aussies should just crack on. If Clarke could use DRS properly, then it wouldn't be an issue - it's meant to stop the bad decision, yet he used it as a tactic to try to get Root and Bairstow out, and got the tactics wrong.

As an appeal for "we've definitely won the first test after looking more and more like we're going to waste the opportunity" it was pretty lacklustre.
