Yep, supercharged 4.2 V8, black, black leather interior. Sound is wonderful partly thanks to a stainless steel aftermarket exhaust which apparently also pushes it over 400 bhp. Which is enough for me.

The jag V12 was popular for replica Ferrari Daytonas IIRC.
Original M5 'only' had 271 bhp, same as the M1 supercar. BMW 5.4 litre V12 introduced 1996 only had 322 bhp.

        I had a 2.5l I5 turbo that produced 450 bhp.

Now, we're regularly seeing over 150bhp a litre in stock cars, and it will get higher. The little ecoboost engine in the Fords, 1.0l I3 turbo, is known to give a reliable 150bhp, and can pump up to 210.

Engines have come on so much in the past 20 years.

          Given your requirements:

          VW Passat 1.4 TSI (122bhp)

I got one at 36 mnths, 24K for 7K, the equiv diesel was 11K!

Now at 76K and no had trouble, avg 40 - 42 mpg.

Not exciting, but reassuringly reliable and function and so fecking cheap!

I think I might want a slightly more powerful one. But not a bad idea. Skoda also.

They do a 1.8 TSI as well. Must say I prefer gong back to petrol after having oil burners for so long. When I drive the wife's diesel Audi I keep thinking the fecker has stalled.

I've been looking them but there's hardly any about on the used market, I was specifically looking for a 2.0 TSI.
