Because, like it or not Christianity has been present on these shores for over a thousand years and is woven into the very fabric of this nation and has formed the bedrock on which so many of our public institutions are based.

Even with dwindling church congregations, Christianity still outflanks followers of Muhammed who form less than 5% of the population.

Furthermore, I'd go so far as to say that the Christian teachings have been instrumental in defining us as a so-called tolerant nation.

Contrast this with how tolerant we'd have been if another ideology had been dominant for the last 1000 years or so, be it Islam or the left wing militant secularism of the soviet union.

Personally, there's a little part of me that admires the Buddhist religion as they are nice to animals but I can't see Channel 4 incorporating Vesak into their schedules.

I didn't realise all nations of the UK had the same Christian Church......

Isn't Channel 4 largely funded by adverts? If so they need to serve commercially interesting market groups; perhaps they've identified muslims as a financially worthwhile group to target with advertisements during ramadan?
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

Most of the commercial stations have fewer adverts during the night as they realise no-one is watching.

Yep, but that doesn't absolve C4 from the job of getting commercial sponsors.

I think you need to be more specific. The Catholic Church and the Evangelicals can be as intolerant as any other religion.

C of E was deliberately made wishy-washy for a very good reason: to enable High Church and Low Church to live together (albeit one quietly ignoring the other).

Yes, good point. I meant C of E.

most seem to, I always found it funny that they worshipped a centuries old religion on the latest technology.

sort of ambivalent, no reason why the muslims shouldn't have airtime but as pointed out as above I want less religion not more.
