Normally I'd agree until the cracks appear in the new-build that was throw up in 6-weeks on a flood plane. Quality does not exist in new builds like it did in the past, that's why the interest is still there."Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience". The house has character (its one reason why I've always wanted it). What I don't want is things that cost money for the sake of it and the aga is definitely one of those.Originally posted by DimPrawn View PostI've never seen the logic in this.
We want our cars to be climate controlled, quiet, efficient, fast, incredibly safe, modern etc but when we choose a house we want "period character" which mean, cramped, cold, pathetic heating systems, draughty sash windows, wonkey walls and floors etc.
No thanks. Ultramodern living for me everytime.....merely at clientco for the entertainmentComment

It was an old Cotswold cottage, and there was a bit of a damp problem in my basement flat. I didn't realise at the time, but once I left and moved into a modern flat, I started feeling much healthier in general.Originally posted by DimPrawn View PostI've never seen the logic in this.

While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'Comment

Being a contractor I expect you have at least 2 en-suite bathrooms, a main bathroom one and a shower room downstairs somewhere... Normal combi's can't run 3+ showers so might have to go boiler route.Originally posted by eek View PostI can afford it (easily) but its pointless. £40+ a week to keep the kitchen warm and give me hot water
I need to replace the 30 year old boiler so may as well get a combo boiler and my wife can have a cooker that doesn't require relearning how to cook.'CUK forum personality of 2011 - Winner - Yes really!!!!

Combi is great for single people in a flat.
Try taking a power shower whilst the other family members are running a bath, or the pressure drops due to washing machine filling at the same time someone flushes the bog.
Modern condensing boiler, pressurised system is what you want.Comment

All houses will spend the first decade of their life settling and cracks will naturally appearOriginally posted by scooterscot View PostNormally I'd agree until the cracks appear in the new-build that was throw up in 6-weeks on a flood plane. As for quality; at the top end of the new build market there is plenty of qualityCoffee's for closersComment

You may not want it, but a lot of people looking for a character house might. So if there's room, I'd just leave it there unused and fit a simple gas oven in addition.Originally posted by eek View PostThe house has character (its one reason why I've always wanted it).
