WHS - I recall was it the Daily Star or similar, had a countdown to Charlotte Church' 18th birthday? I didn't see any of those hacks being hauled up before a judge for harassing a child! The law as it stands says 17y 11m 3[0/1] days is illegal, 18y is fair game.Originally posted by Nigel Farage MEP - 2016-06-24 04:00:00"I hope this victory brings down this failed project and leads us to a Europe of sovereign nation states, trading together, being friends together, cooperating together, and let's get rid of the flag, the anthem, Brussels, and all that has gone wrong." -
Because that's how law's work, they can only be black or white, we may not agree with them but its how its done, the judiciary gets the final say with the punishment, thats why doing 31 in a 30 zone nothing happens, do 131 in a 30 zone and you go to jail.Originally posted by rl4engc View PostWHS - I recall was it the Daily Star or similar, had a countdown to Charlotte Church' 18th birthday? Your point stands, but IIRC it was a 15 year old with enormous knockers who wanted to go topless in the Star, which she did on her 16th birthday. Phwoar!Originally posted by rl4engc View PostWHS - I recall was it the Daily Star or similar, had a countdown to Charlotte Church' 18th birthday? Oh ... apparently it's 18 now, it was 16 until 2003Originally posted by Uncle Albert View PostUm... isn't it 16 rather than 18?
Before 2003, British tabloids could legally feature 16- and 17-year-old girls as topless models. Samantha Fox, Maria Whittaker, Debee Ashby, and others began their topless modelling careers in the Sun when they were 16, while the Daily Sport was even known to count down the days until it could feature a girl topless on her 16th birthday, as it did with Linsey Dawn McKenzie in 1994. In 2003, the Sexual Offences Act 2003 raised the minimum legal age for topless modelling to 18.Comment

So presumably those pictures are now illegal? So the paper's archive sections would have had to remove them or risk charges being brought?Originally posted by Platypus View PostOh ... apparently it's 18 now, it was 16 until 2003

He would have had to wait until she was 18 because he was in a position of responsibility. I'm not sure if quitting would change that or if the fact that he met her while he was a teacher would still have had some bearing.Originally posted by formant View PostSad story.
I mean, of course he's stupid (as is she). He had options (resigning, waiting till she's 16 to make it official, etc.) and he made poor choices. And it's unlikely to be a sustainable relationship.
But, for Christ's sake, I don't think I've seen a case like this before where the 'perpetrator' cared THAT much about having the girl's explicit consent.
I disagree with a fixed age of consent for teenagers. I believe it should be assessed on a case by case basis. Some, such as this one, are perfectly able to consent and understand what consent means.Comment

Of course that does ignore the pertinent fact that the man is a ******* moron.Originally posted by Bunk View PostHe would have had to wait until she was 18 because he was in a position of responsibility.
