The Russians are too canny to be involved in delivering the arms themselves. They'll also be rubbing their hands together at more orders from Assad. Lots of businesses in the West will also be rubbing their hands together at the increase in trade. Nothing promotes the stock market more than a good war.

But arming Al Qaeda in one country, and fighting them in another seems almost too funny to laugh about.

And if Al Qaeda get hold of sarin, I am not pootling about in London again...

I think we are entering an extremely profitable phase. (I know my mate is very happy) That means more dead kids and mothers and more righteous hatred of the the interfering outsiders.

This should have been an arabic solution not another round of white guys selling Armageddon after enough refugees are cleansed out the equation

I'm open to a decent argument, but is there a good reason why we shouldn't just leave them to their own civil wars? Some of those rebel groups are no better than Assad anyway.

Let 'em get on with it. It will sort itself out in the end. The re-building will keep 'em well busy afterwards. What doesn't kill 'em will make 'em stronger so good in the long run. Why get involved and send in lambs & puppets to be gassed and executed - interventation will make it a lot worse and we'll end up with countless rapes and torture and more embarassment to the west.

So if we can strike a deal with the Russians where we arm opposing sides via satellite states then we could make a fair amount of money. Once the money is all gone we can pull out and let them finish each other before moving in to 'help' and then plundering any natural resources the country has. If they do not have any then ***** 'em - it is against our policy to interfere in another country's internal political affairs.

There are international laws which preclude the use of chemical weapons on civilians. With great power comes responsibility.

It's a no win for the politicians , if they don't intervene and hundreds of thousands more die they get accused of apathy. Also Obama said if chem weapon were used then that was the red line. So he's bound to take some action now given it looks like that has happened (not sure if its been confirmed yet)

I'm leaning to non-intervention, but I'm annoyed that the usual do-gooders 'Get out of Iraq/Afganistan' types have not had the courage to make the same demands now and tell the Government to stay out of it.

I would imagine they're writing their placards and organising themselves for when the inevitable happens.

I assume its something to do with their geography, the US/UK etc need a good relationship with Turkey who share their southern border with Syria for flight access to most of the Middle East, so general instability in the area makes them jumpy. Also give then fact Syria have close ties with Iran through Hezbollah they have to get involved due to the obligation with Isreal.
