    Yes, and I know that x > y > z => x > z, which means you're saying that 300 > 1000.

        They are just jealous, they don't earn as much as £300 a week making Big Macs.

            Boomed!
            I read this thread this morning. This afternoon agent called me about a role I am going for to say the client wanted to offer me the gig, but at a reduced rate (because there was another candidate who was suitable and had quoted a lower rate). I said no. Agent called back 10 minutes later to say the client had agreed to take me on at the original rate.

            Worryingly similar to your scenario.

            I think I'll turn up at the client on the start date to find you in reception, two pairs of boxing gloves, and an instruction to fight it out between the two of us for the role.

            Oh, and Boomed! I guess

                  Must be a common thing that clients try on, they are a business after all....

                      FTFY

                      I have never ever had a direct client query how much I was charging them or refuse a rate increase at renewal time or try anything else to get a "better deal"... worse I've had is the odd sarcastic comment about "taking all their money and leaving nothing for them!"

                      The only rate negotiations I've had were with agents and even they haven't tried it on in the past couple of years
