my suggestion was that in countries with lower immunisation rates could possibly increase infection rates. Just like TB, Cholera and HIV infection rates have been affected by migration.

Its obvious if you come from a country where the disease is common and there is little or ineffective immunisation then you may well bring it with you. I suspect shortly the US will ask for vaccination confirmation before issuing a visa.

This does not reflect on the persons race, its just logic.

Its like mumps parties but on a country scale.

Ahh, yes Dr Peter Fletcher published his research in that highly respected and credible medical journal called "The Daily Mail" in 2006.

Lots of things have happened since then. Have a read about Andrew Wakefield but it's sufficient to say that Wakefield's paper was withdrawn from the Lancet, he was struck off the Medical Register in May 2010 for dishonest falsification in The Lancet research and he is now barred from practising medicine in the UK.

Now whether you believe the overall benefits of MMR outweigh the risks then fine, so long as care is taken. But it smelt awfully of a cover up with certain people getting back handers / social capital from supporting MMR.

As opposed to Wakefield who had his own vested interests which he didn't declare?


The fact is that there is no link between MMR and autism and this has been proven time and time again.

This person is arguing that the NHS should offer separate vaccines. This would be unethical because there is no clinical evidence that the separate vaccines are better than the single shot. Indeed, it would be harmful and traumatic for the child to receive three injections rather than a single combined one.

He goes banging on about it for ages but really it boils down to the "nanny state" telling people what to do and not giving them a choice (ie, single doses or MMR vaccine). He also thinks he is qualified to question if measles is really a serious disease anyway.

I suppose that as a Daily Wail journalist he thinks he knows better than NICE, the WHO and all the other respected scientists but the sad thing is that some people actually believe his argumentative drivel and this harms children.

Really it just comes down to the fact that he's there to sell papers and stiring up a controversy like this is a good way to do it and make a name for himself in the process.

I think there is an argument that journalists writing on certain matters have a duty of care and should be liable to criminal prosecution for willful distortion of facts.

so one minute only health professionals and gifted statisticians can make such judgements then next we accept the pronouncements of senile old judges? Do try to be consistent on team MMR.

No actually he is saying if you force a population to do something instead of convincing them its likely they will disobey. He said this before the government of the time rail-roaded people into the MMR by removing the single vaccine and viciously suppressing anyone who raised questions. Strangely he was proven right, we are now seeing the result.

Mr Hitchens has a name for himself (if somewhat right wing), yes he has to sell papers, drug companies have to sell vaccines and health authorities have to cut costs and meet targets.

If you make judgements based on Tabloid newspaper campaigns then you are a moron. I had my children vaccinated based on medical advise and a little research on the facts, and guess what, they don't have Measles or Autism. This is while the morons are queuing up to get their children vaccinated with the same herd mentality they displayed in 'disobeying'. I think we now know who was right and who was wrong.

Having one vaccine makes a lot of sense, the uptake of 3 sets of multiple administered injections tends to be somewhat lower leading to more cases. Add to that there is a shortage of the Mumps vaccine as it is no longer manufactured. So single injection is on the whole less efficacious.
