British history is quite incomplete without taking into account history of a large part of the world
Also a wider history of the world is one thing, but some here are clearly looking for much more than that, its all supposed to be an exercise to persuade children of the wonders of our diverse society. That's probably why they don't like the emphasis on British history as our diverse society is only about 70 years old. Before 1945, the UK was actually a very homogenous one by world standards.
PS Amazed nobody has spotted that one of the historians supporting the new curriculum is David Starkey. Missed a great "argument" there lefties!bloggoth

my daughters are already doing essays on 'what was wrong with the empire'
I was naughty and encouraged my kids to point out the benefits to both sides.Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.Comment

Inclined to agree with the "other side" on that one. The empire was appalling. I see nothing positive about invading other people's countries and imposing our "enlightened" civilisation on them. The best you can say about the British empire was that some others were far worse.bloggoth
