That´s true but be generally careful anything beyond 3 months is a definite no no even if you stay in hotels. They are pretty thorough and cross check all invoices at some point, so they will definitely know you´ve been earning, even if it is 10 years from now. Do a double check you don´t need to pay tax, and don´t rely on keeping under the radar, it´s all automated these days, everything will be registered straight into their computer. Checking UK based contractors is fairly routine in Germany.
      I'm alright Jack

And there used to be an RAF base in Gutersloh, so it's not as if they're not used to non-German speaking Englischers...

It's currently used by the Army. Plenty of expats in supporting industries I would have thought in that area.

              AUTOBAHN baby!

Ok so I've managed to rent an apartment in Bielefeld. 19 km commute. So I'd probably be better of driving there, leaving the car over there for the duration and finally driving back.

Anyone got any experience of driving to Germany from blighty? Is it fun?

I did similar to Ireland, check your insurance you'll probably find you're not covered or only TP for three days at a time and not for business.

And the ferry/tunnel costs can mount up - I've swallowed my pride and gone back to Ryanair.

Drive there once, one set of ferry costs. Then flights after that. Then on the last day of the gig, drive back, one more set of ferry costs.

I will check with my insurers though, good point!
