We have the Norton Family minder on and we are forever getting pop ups saying this site has been blocked even though we don't even have a web browser running. I can't see where or what it is doing for the life in me. Very annoying.

No clue. Been using it for years, and no issues. I like it for the fact that it's lightweight, without any ladies with butt jobs. Using kaspersky here.

The newsagent is hosting the illegal material. TPB and others don't host any material, legal or otherwise. They provide links to files, in the same way that Google does.

So if instead of selling pedo porn, the newsagent gives out leaflets with URLs to pedo porn sites, that's OK? He's not holding or distributing the porn, after all.

If someone runs in front of my car and is killed, I haven't done anything illegal. If I deliberately run them down, I have. There's a massive difference between Google finding links to illegal material due to automated tools working that way, and an organisation whose very existance is based around helping people pirate files (the clue's in the name PIRATE bay).

TPB has nothing to do with freedom and campaigning for justice, and everything to do with freeloading. Perhaps the owners have lofty ideals (though if you read anything they post it hardly seems plausible) but to users, it's just a way to get stuff without paying for it.

I am not going to start a massive argument on what is right and wrong, but the law states it is illegal to share copyrighted material, it is not illegal to download it, its a very fine distinction but it is a distinction, it is possible to download a torrent without uploading it at the same time.

What the law says, and what is right, are not always the same. It's not illegal for me to bone your wife as long as she wants it, but it is for me to drive 80mph on a motorway.

What about ripping music you already have? For iphone/ipod? Is that actually legal?

Taking it further I had dozens of LP's stolen in the 80's - my entire Neil Young collection for a start, am I ok to torrent those since I already did pay for them once?

WRT to ripping of movies etc I think Mark Kermode has it right, on day one of movie release release a low bitrate/mono sound version of the movie online for like £2 and let the film-heads go to the cinema to watch it in Dolby, Mega-screen whatever for a tenner.

Would stop 90% of the illegal sharing and get some dosh in for those that claim they are losing.
