This is not the case, although it might seem that way.

I lost 4lbs over Christmas and I have no idea how, I did not train nor monitor my diet but being as I was at home I was not having my lunchtime baguet which I think might be the cause!

Losing weight is easy, consume fewer calories than you use. Doing it is difficult so people look for easy ways out (crash diets etc).

However, if you want to lose weight and keep it off then you will need to change things long term. Perhaps have a crust with soup but make it a smaller one etc?

I think the no carbs after lunch is a scientific one, in that carbs are used for energy, and unused carbs get stored as fat, so if you pile into a plate of pasta, no matter what size, at night, and don't use the energy, then it gets stored as fat. That is how I understand it, but obviously am not a food scientist.

Anyone got any ideas of this carbs theory?

I think the only proven method I have seen others lose weight is exercise and good diet. The one I have seen lose weight and keep it off consistently, didn't eat carbs anytime after lunch, and the only carbs he ate were complex ones e.g. brown rice, whole meal pasta, wholemeal bread.

I'd also add that the only exercise I have done, and seen others do, which really does yanks the weight off, is cycling. I have no idea why, no scientific proof, but you can eat like a horse when you cycle lots and still maintain a set of abs
I think the Dutch prove that you can eat all sorts of cr@p and keep the weight off, they cycle everywhere and eat huge amounts of bread, dairy, deep fried nonsense, and they are all pretty thin.

They are also very active in general and tend to do a lot of sports, but the work/life balance is a lot better here so people take the time to engage in sports rather than being stuck behind a desk longer.

A sensible diet and exercise is all it needs and keep it consistent.

I reckon best way to lose weight is a carb free diet. protein/veg/fruit/salad.

After my morning situps and 12mile cycle I did a 5km row. Just done a 5 mile run for lunch.

And if you keep that up you'll end up burning muscle mass rather than energy with no carbs in your diet.

I should have said that my two statements were not connected. So yes you are correct.

Before starting training a couple of years ago I lost weight. Took 6 months. I did the cabbage soup diet twice. I did small exercise and no carbs. Then I started training.

I am not on a carb free diet. I am going to lose weight - but slowly. It is almost impossible to lose fat quickly. I remember some study done where one group dieted more severly and lost more weight - but almoast all the extra was from muscle.

You will find there are carbs in vegetables, as a general rule people in the west eat far to many bad carbs, white bread, white rice etc.

But not enough to sustain the levels of exercise that he is doing.

And it doesn't have to be bread, white rice etc...

That is why I said "in general people in the west" not him!

Does not change the fact there are carbs in veg, I was trying to enlighten people.
