It is legal, I've been stung with it, having had 18 months overseas on my last stint

Agents like this make me laugh. It's bad enough when HR departments demonstrate such cluelessness, but agents' ability to make a living depends on not being this stupid. They might as well be advertising for an astronaut that's been into space a dozen times, plus at least one moonwalk.

There's one doing rounds just now up here that I've seen advertised with the exact same description by several agencies. It includes the telling phrase:

So, WCF (a .Net communications technology) and MVVM (a design pattern typically used in Silverlight and WPF applications) are apparently comparative examples of the same thing now?, and that thing is "Microsoft Common Language Runtimes". You couldn't make it up. Top Tip, chaps: you're paid to find qualified people, not to merely regurgitate misinformed bullshit that some HR jockey misheard at a meeting once.

The rate for that one has climbed £100 pd since the last time I saw it advertised. I suspect it'll climb another £100 before someone eventually decides it's worth their trouble cutting through the hyperbole to see if there's an actual role underneath all the misinformed BS in evidence.

I think that is £100 less than the rate you'd need to pay some local who could do that role and probably £200 less once you get someone willing to commute and do that job. And I doubt there is anyone local who could do it.

Strangely enough I look at that job and could do but I doubt there are many contractors who know Windows, Java, all that other rubbish and could legitimately put it on their CV. And if that rate began as £200 there is no way they'll willing accept the rate they need to pay for someone so you'd have to be mad to do it.

Hubby still does VMS support. They've still got some big customers - banks and utility companies. Not sure how much longer it'll keep him going though.

This will be paying at least £250 and you'll be allowed to wear sandals in the office.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

Best to retrain if he can.

                    What a wonderful misunderstanding.

Basically eff-all to do, because Charon VAX is a hardware emulator and you can run the exact replica of a VMS system in it.

Are they really after Bobs then?

The question has to be asked.
