On the flip side we get £1200 a month in passive income back, so true outgoings are £2300per month. The kids get £100 per month each into savings accounts included in that as well. We don't need the child allowance but frankly on the amount of taxes i pay I'll be fecked if I'm willing to give it up, it pays for the Pinot!!!
How much personal allowance you give to your kids to spend a week?

I think it will, but for a different reason.

If you talk to a good butcher you can eat VERY well indeed for not much money at all.
WHS. Got a meatloaf in the oven right now. New(ish) potatoes and leeks, with plum pie to follow.

        Yum.

This isn't as cheap but likewise, and there's 20% off all wines tomorrow.

The middle class used to be old banged up volvo in the drive but education marked them out and they were happy with their lot brigade, now it's bleating to the papers about material wealth and a sense of entitlement.

She's way too class conscious. All the crud about becoming middle class etc. Perhaps she's too busy trying to keep up with the Joneses.

Since the husband commutes by rail, a 10K car seems to be like keeping up appearances.

I had more sympathy for the middle class couple in the Telegraph circa 2000 who were on 100K combined income but with a combination of rubbish local schools and peer pressure had to cope with school fees.

Even in Switzerland that's a stretch.

Lots of packaged food comes to mind.

An ex-boss got redundancy in the mid-eighties and didn't want to go on the dole, but his accountant pointed out how much he had paid in tax and he changed his mind. His dole money wasn't much, but it paid for his cigars.
