Does the answer involve Jimmy Savile?
The material prosperity of a nation is not an abiding possession; the deeds of its people are.

20th century art. Enjoying it, but one of the authors in particular does tend to express his ideas in a very convoluted way which makes it hard going. You read it and think, huh? So read it again (with dictionary) and still not much wiser.

20th century art in a nutshell, now all you have to do is pad it out to 3500 words.
But I discovered nothing else but depraved, excessive superstition. Pliny the younger

well that really helped the squeezed middle's case.
It's easy to be sarcastic and start whining about her whining; but she does have a point. Living in London is so expensive it's a wonder anyone other than millionaires can afford it, and the same is true of most of the UK.

How anyone lives on some minimum wage type income such as £20K (less tax) is so utterly beyond my comprehension, it's literally like wondering if alien life forms could exist on the surface of a neutron star.

I can't see how they could afford even necessities such as food and council tax and transport costs let alone any luxuries such as booze and fags.

That's one reason so many high-skilled people are emigrating - Successive socialist governments (including this one) milk the slightly better off in so many ways, direct and otherwise (for example council tax rises, reflecting central Government demands) that the country must be a hair's breadth away from some critical tax rate above which the whole economy implodes.

Scoff all you like - It's understandable, as non-linear economic effects are probably beyond your mental capacity to grasp. But in the UK there are millions of families like hers and individuals (especially young people), all getting into ever more debt, with fewer and fewer well-paid, or even adequately paid, jobs available to service it.

Also, while the deficit remains positive (which even on the most optimistic projections it will for several more years) the Government is doing the same.

So who's to say the economy won't implode again, even worse than before?
