This seems to be the latest buzzzzword. Who is doing work on this ? Is there going to be a lot of demand in this space and is it worth getting skilled up in this ?

My plan b is based entirely around MongoDB. The reasons are many but the upsert statement alone makes it more than worthwhile.Originally posted by fullyautomatix View PostThis seems to be the latest buzzzzword. Who is doing work on this ? As for playing with mongo both mongohq and mongolab will give you a free sandbox or 10 to play with.merely at clientco for the entertainment -
No, not hadoop. Hard up is the latest buzzwordOriginally posted by fullyautomatix View PostThis seems to be the latest buzzzzword. Who is doing work on this ? "Big Data" is in the same category as "RESTful" and "Agile" for me. Which is to say that different people seem to use these phrases to mean radically different things, and when they're used without context it's usually a sign that the speaker isn't really sure what they're doing or why.
Not much call for it up here. There was a company called "MaxyMiser" that was looking for developers that'd used NoSQL -type data stores a while back, but other than that nobody else has mentioned it.Comment

There is lots of 'big data' stuff going on in here.
Apparently it involves "lots of crazy guys with PhDs" or so that was what the guy in charge of it said.
It sounded a lot of tulipe to me quite frankly.Comment

"Big data" has value only when mathematically trained statisticians or data mining or AI specialists (and there is a convergence of all 3) apply their skills to make sense of it.
All these other buzzwords involve low-level manipulaton of data ready for the experts to do their stuff.Hard Brexit now!
