People who are getting the correct answer seem to be doing it in a way where you have to wait for the first test results to come through before retesting. There is a quicker way.

As he tests each bottle you can assume they're safe and start drinking them. The one he leaves till last will be the poisoned one???

The poison doesn't work immediately so we'd end up hanging about until he snuffs it and still not know which one was safe.

My half-assed approach needs 11 trolls, and 10 of them die, but that's without googling and before I read the rest of the thread. I'm sure there's a clever step to reduce from the obvious way.
