am I right in thinking you can put a drop from two bottles into one glass

Of course it does!! The tester tries 500 bottles. If he dies the poison is in the 500 sample set!!! If he lives, that 500 sample set is OK!!! Either way, you send the batch with poison in back to the suppliers and get a refund!!! Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!!!!

Just thinking about it your method means we have to wait an undefined amount of time before we can continue testing. My method (which you know) means we get a definite answer to to the complete test as soon as the results kick in as it happens all at once. (assuming the poison acts at the same speed for all - which it does cos it's my puzzle)

People who are getting the correct answer seem to be doing it in a way where you have to wait for the first test results to come through before retesting. There is a quicker way.
