My uncle had a sore shoulder.

Two weeks later, he was dead.

OK, I don't even have any Spiced Rum. As it turns out, the only alcohol I have in the house are some ten-year-old bottles of spirits that were stuck in a cupboard after a party back God-knows-when, from amongst which I've managed to extract a bottle of something called "Dark Rum". And I have Red Bull instead of Coke.

This may turn out to be one of those "mistakes" mentioned in the other thread earlier.

You can't go wrong with any alcohol and a mixer.

Don't mix Tramadol and alcohol - it greatly enhances the soporific effect. The maximum medical dose of ibuprofen is 2400mg - 800mg 3x a day. My doc (specialises in sports medicine) says that 400mg doses won't do anything, and usually prescribes 600mg doses. Alcohol and ibuprofen works quite nicely, as they're metabolised differently. Don't mix alcohol and paracetemol.

See a doctor if you have muscle weakness in the arms or hands, or any areas of numbness.

I ignored shoulder pain ten years ago. Turned out to be two slipped disks in my neck. While a double discectomy and spinal fusion (four hours of major surgery) dealt with the pain, I remain partially paralysed in my left arm and have no feeling in some of the fingers of my left hand. Fortunately, at the time, I was a permie, so I just had 5 months off work on full pay.

Although the neurologist diagnosed the cause of my pain just using a couple of needles, it took an MRI to confirm it. A CAT scan didn't show anything.

The surgeon said that, judging from the scarring, the disks had been herniating for years before. I did have a history of shoulder pain.

If I'd have seen a doc earlier, then it might have been treatable more conservatively. But then I wouldn't have a cool scar across my neck.

I had a frozen shoulder once. The missus, a nurse, told me all the usual horror stories. luckily it cleared up in a few weeks

but it was orrible. and scarey. but at least Ive still got two nuts

You would be very lucky to get that out of an NHS GP.

Though it is worth going to the GP instead of being a martyr.

Lots of men refuse to go and then it turns out more serious then they think.......

GPs tend to get worried when they see people they haven't seen for a few years.

The worse the doctor can do is tell you to take pain killers. The best they can do is refer you to someone else.

If they refer you to a physio and you don't have private health care, find one (by word of mouth) and pay for it yourself. You will mend quicker.

Nothing exciting. I just woke up with a bit of a stiff neck one morning last week, which within 24 hours had migrated into my left shoulder, with occasional pain down to my forearm and hand. Because of where it started and the other problems I've had with my back before, I think it's a trapped nerve in my upper spine that's the root cause and I'm just experiencing the pain in my arm. To my knowledge, I've not actually done anything to the shoulder/arm itself.

It could be a stroke !
