I paid my Polish tradesmen (note the plural) by bank transfer.

One of them was recording everything in a book for his accounts. He had a house he had a mortgage on in the UK just like a couple of Polish guys I've worked with.

probably this is because the countries select the people for visa's based on their potential?

Immigration visa rules are the tightest they've ever been, and fecking expensive. For example in 2002 even (have to check exactly) it was all free, now it's £3/4k end-to-end to do it legally.

The issue is Border Control and ease of mobility, the clandestines sitting in the camps in Calais get caught 9/10, but keep trying and eventually they get it.

Since Polish citizens couldn't work in quite a few other EU countries until last year I doubt it. *

Plus a lot of immigrant women including Polish women work as cleaners and get paid in cash. Do they all declare the cash? With the sums involved unless they run a company I strongly doubt it.

*I had to listen to the moaning about how they "hate" certain countries. All I got was thanks for the Second World War.
