Lets face it, most permies are not worth half what they get anyway. 4 Hours chatting, an hour for lunch (even though its supposed to be 30 mins) 3 hours of work tops, and go home having left most important things undone.

I remember once incident where accounts had made a complete mess of the payroll and had to do it again and if it wasnt submitted to the bank that day, the workforce wouldnt get paid. So the woman who does it, HAS to leave at 5pm cus her children are waiting for her, and you think fair enough, wouldnt want kids alone somewhere thinking "where's mummy?" So I as contractor have to quickly learn how to submit a payment run and I stay till its done to per her work colleagues, who she has worked with 15 years.

It turns out the kids are sat in the car with the husband, waiting for her outside the office.

I see this sort of behaviour all the time, and often hear the expressions "Its not my job" , "I dont get paid for that"

2 days working from home for a permie means 0 work as well. If they do 5 hours work for the whole day, i'd consider it an achievement (where I currently am that is).

If there are no jobs out there then 0.5% is better than nothing. And nothing is better than losing your job.

I have no seen figures on wage rises for ages - I wonder what they are now?

Surely that depends on the job? Nothing would be better than losing your job if you mopped the floor on a porn set but other ones are not so bad
