One of the problems with benefits in this country (which I can't understand why people don't get more worked up about) is that a person who has contributed via tax for 30 years gets the same as a person who has never worked. We should have a staggered benefits system. Come to this country with nothing and expect nothing, but put in for a few years and then you're entitled to get back same as everyone else. It's only fair.

Spot on Lockhouse I couldn't have said it better myself, I also believe it should apply to the NHS as well. I believe those that pay into to the system should be put ahead of those who do not, I'm not saying this should apply in all cases as that would be wrong as children and the elderly have rights. All I'm saying is that if I need treatment I should be given it ahead of some scrounger who's never worked a day in their lives so I can get back to contributing.

You all get worked up about the unemployed and unproductive people, but they aren't the ones who are destroying our economy. OK, they cost money, but it's a simple transaction; we pay them, they buy special brew and sit at home watching porn and getting drunk. The unproductives don't cost anything like as much as the anti-productives, and some of them are probably best kept away from real jobs where they could do real damage. Anti-productives include various government and quango inspectors, clipboard men, traffic wardens, corporate quality systems auditors, council building regulation jobsworths, lots of middle managers and many many more, and seem to form a larger and larger part of the 'working' population; they are the real problem, because they cost many times more than their salary by actively preventing other people from doing something productive.

Hey I used to be a "corporate quality systems auditor" lol, it's true I get all worked I think it's because I come from a family of scroungers and worked hard to get where I am. My sister in law was complaining how expensive her Sky bill was 90+GBP a month she has 4 kids and neither her or her other half work yet they are to afford Sky holidays to Europe and to run two cars.

Well that's missing the whole point of benefits... to provide food and lodging for people equally. You don't accumulate benefits by paying taxes, that's what savings and pensions are for.

The people should contribute equally, people on benefits often have more disposable income than those who don't. How are people expected to save and contribute to pensions, when they're struggling to pay their bills

There's no point doing that, you'll get exactly the same as someone who spent everything on drinks and fags. So why bother?

The sooner more people stop the sooner the stupid system will be destroyed, and this is just as true of Spain.

Just reading that they Spanish Govt. are also reducing by 20% subsidies to its Unions and Political parties?!

Does anyone know if this happens in the UK, or are they purely self funded?!

That's mental, you shouldn't get anything above the standard dole.

If you have a problem with that get some kind of insurance or spend less whilst you're in a job.
