Ed Balls and Gordon Brown were the leading architects of changing the bank regulation and monitoring system early in Labour's term in office.

The central planks of their new system were the tripartite arrangement of the BOE, the new FSA and the Treasury, in which nobody was sure what they were responsible for, and "light touch".

It was a great success, as we've been seeing for the past few years!

Same tulip would have happened under Cons also.

Politicians would do anything to stay in power.

And at the time that it was done, during an economic boom it was greeted as the best thing since sliced bread, hindsight is always 20/20!

One does not need hindsight to know that going for a binge drinking session will result in big headache.

But one needs strong will to resist it.

I blame Convervatives in general and Thatcher in particular for not having very good edukation for all with focus on economics - my skool was much more advanced in this respect...

The sad part is that most likely BoE wanted it to happen, shame because I am sure Barclays and other banks did a tulipload of other stuff for which their CEOs should lost jobs

Starting a new contract is like buying a house.

Never believe it's going to happen until you have the keys in your hand and you have moved in.
