I didn't say the advice inflicted was unconstructive. I said it was unsought and unnecessary. It's one of life's little ironies that whilst most blokes will be the first to get all offended if you proffer unsought advice at them (because they perceive it as criticism), they're also generally the most surprised if you point out that enquiries and requests for advice usually have a question mark at the end. The opening post was a simple vent about having a bad day: no more and no less than that. I'm just pointing out that most women picked up on that fact, whilst some men went straight into "fixit" mode and miss out on that underlying subtext.

Definitely true. And you wont find me harping on about the male/female divide too often; it just happened to come up in this particular thread and I gave my tuppence worth. I've worked in some pretty male-dominated environments over the years (ship yards / army / police), so I'm well used to appreciating and enjoying the differences, rather than allowing them to be obstacles.
