That's my plan, and I'm on a smaller daily rate than most. (I don't have kids or commitments though, and zero debt)

Hardly. It was a rather expensive extension to what was already a large house.

Obviously doesn't understand the fact that having a mortgage and making payments on time improves a credit rating more than having No mortgage.
Using the credit cards and paying off monthly does the same, although they would prefer you didn't (Except for my Black Card where they get uppity if I'm a day late clearing it ).

I think you will find that most contractors will have a mortgage for a significant part of their working lives..... So I doubt they would quickly forget what one is.

They probably did but nobody still there knows how to run it.

Some people still assume that as I've a newish car, that I must have a car loan. The idea of buying a car with cash is alien to their economic status.

(Although this time I do have a car loan at the moment - first time in 15 years - but that's for reasons of liquidity coupled with very low interest rates ).

I usually replied with, "No, lets f***ing do some instead" but his budgets only allowed for talking about it This is why this stuff happens.
Yep, and add to that testing 'methodologies' and project managers that turn testing into an exercise of demonstrating that the software will do what you want it do do if the user or maintenance chappy follows the manual precisely. Trouble is, people don't follow manuals precisely and users often have to deal with cases that don't fit the standard business process. No amount of shouting 'RTFM' will ever change that. Good exploratory testing of the kind that James Bach proposes involves going further and trying to show that software will do something you absolutely DON'T want it to do using steps that are accessible to users or other applications. Then you get the problem of some PM saying 'oh but a normal user would never do that'. Great, but there is no such thing as a 'normal user'.

Mind you, I think TM knows all this already.

It's always a bit weird when they say 'and how would you like to pay for this?'

and I'm thinking 'with money ?'

Funny, I was thinking the same and answered 'with EO's money'.
