So Ban Ki-moon Kofi Annan,Obama, Cameron etc are making a real difference by condemning the violence in Syria. I expect unless we see a video of Assad executing some Syrian children and his wife sporting a handbag made from the skin of innocent women, it will be more lip-service. Should there be some intervention?

That is an excuse, they disregarded the UN before, when they went to Iraq. It's because Obama is looking for a second term, shameful.Originally posted by AtW View PostYes, but Putin is doing his best to protect his spiritual friend.Comment

There were some technical reasons that allowed them to do it, but the results were very bad and Obama made a lot of political capital on it.Originally posted by russell View PostThat is an excuse, they disregarded the UN before, when they went to Iraq.
Libya was a good example however that it can be done but this time Russia won't accept it, just shows how low the role of the country now is under Putin - come to think of it he did the same thing in Chechnya in 1999 and the West was silent: he certainly can see clear parallels so he is doing his best to protect his scumbag friends.Comment

There is oil in Syria. Not an awful lot, but there is oil; quite a lot of gas too.Originally posted by zeitghostWhich part of "there's no oil in Syria" do you find difficult to understand? And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014Comment

The Wiki says that they are expected to be a net importer of oil in 2012. High unemployment, high birth rate, once relied on oil exports ... everything sounds fine.Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostThere is oil in Syria. Not an awful lot, but there is oil; quite a lot of gas too.Comment

That’s a sign of the abject stupidity of Assad. They’ve got oil and gas and lots of sunshine; they could easily be self-sufficient in energy AND export oil, gas and electricity, but the place is run by a loony.Originally posted by TimberWolf View PostThe Wiki says that they are expected to be a net importer of oil in 2012.
