Nixon Williams accoutancy fees rise

The increase in fees is too much for a least 3 contractors I know using Nixons so they are planning to move, it's alot more than I'm paying and I get good service. There are a number of smaller accountants specialising in contractors out there that are £60 plus vat a month.

Considering the current climate as well and descreasing rates for alot of contractors such a price rise for Nixons might not bring in the extra revenue expected when clients leaving is factored in.

I notice alot of the big contractor accoutancts charge around the same and alot more than the smaller ones, surely the larger ones should have some level of economy of scale so don't understand why there fees are so much higher.

I've switched accountants before and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but it all depends on how helpful the accountant you are switching from is, but even if they are not helpful as long as you have good records yourself it won't be a problem. Also got to factor in timing it might be worth staying with your current accoutant if you have made the bulk of your payments to get your eoy accounts done, as you new accountant will charge for this.

If the one you're switching too is good, it should be pretty seamless - but common sense like not switching when you've got CT return due in a month should be taken into account!

My switch ClearSky -> InTouch was very easy. Although IIRC InTouch was founded by ex-Quay (ClearSky) people in the first place.

I use accountsnet.com for 65 quid.

Cannot really think of anything they don't offer and always been very happy with the service.

I'm just switching from SJD to InTouch (saving myCo over £30 a month). Process seems pretty painless, and as long as there's at least 2 months till your year end, InTouch don't charge extra for the accounts.

I believe InTouch put their fees up last year (to £85 + VAT) so hopefully no further rises due. I think a difference of a tenner or so is one thing, but when different accountants are charging such different amounts for very similar services it's difficult to understand the huge difference in fees.

I guess they rely on laziness to stop most of us switching.

I heard Lima accountancy was good to.

Its defo the fears it complicated to move accountants that puts people off and it did for me, but it was alot simplier than I thought wish I had done it long time ago.

Time for contractors to start showing the big boys they don't think they get value for £.

On a side note though I wish I had set one of these contractor accountant business up , nice business model must make a pretty profit.

What services does one want? I pay £640 per annum inclusive of VAT and the smaller practice I use does all that I want it to do.
