I was looking at CCTV too, as I was in Maplin the other day anyway. You can get a decent set for about £300 but I think the cameras are wired rather than wireless, which is a real pain.

My super efficient electrician has been around preparing some wiring for the new garage today, and he is also now preparing a quote for alarm system with 4 external cameras.

I can now get rid of my Virgin Media contract and watch the neighbours getting robbed instead.

An alarm system is a number one priority, would not live in a house without one.

Security lights, good locks on outhouses and side gates, keeping keys out of view of the letter box, making sure there are no items than can smash windows in the garden etc. That will reduce your chance of a break in massively.

In saying that the wife likes to leave her mac book pro on tables and chairs next to windows whenever we go out. The thing is screaming "SMASH, GRAB, RUN, SKAG"
