Got self diag sign on my PUG 307 saying to "UNBLOCK DIESEL FILTER", one dealer said its 75 quid but booked until 13th of June, the other says it may well be particular filter which is lot more expensive like 400 quid work inc parts, so the question is, just how likely it is to be particulate filter? Car only made 60k miles with all servicing, sounds rather strange that at this time it would have to be particulate filter

This is part of the diesel "myth" about low running costs.
If you look in any decent car mag you will see true running costs that cover fuel costs, servicing, purchase costs and repairs.
When this is factored in, diesel cars are no cheaper to run than petrol cars of similar performance, unless you cover at least 15K miles pa, when the higher MPG of diesel starts to make a small impact.
Below this sort of mileage, the extra purchase costs, servicing costs etc make the diesel car just as costly.
Diesel, good for taxi drivers, trains, buses, lorries and tractors.

Just because the filter is blocked it doesn't mean that it needs replacing. Sounds like the second bloke was trying to rip you off - ring round 3 or 4 places but try to stick with a reputable garage. Peugeots are notoriously expensive if anything goes wrong and they are a b***er to work on so you may find the labour costs are quite high but 400 quid really does seem a bit steep.Comment
