He may well be right, certainly there are/were many cultures which we would find not just backward but evil (though it's a very over-used word); the question is whether that is an excuse or not.

Well it depends if you believe in any absolute morality... if you don't then which morality is 'best' ends up being decided by which side has the might and desire to force theirs on the other side.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

They rape these childen, often causing extreme pain and internal damage. in Pakistan and other emerging countries, many child brides bleed to death or get infections like Sepsis and die a short time later or during childbirth.

I've been twice and in the westernised resorts I saw plenty of Turkish men out drinking and fraternising with the tourists, I never saw a Turkish girl out on the lash.Originally posted by AtW View PostScience isn't about why, it's about why not. I'm not convinced British culture is much better when it comes to how we view "getting sex" out of women... getting "a bird" a bit tipsy deliberately is not at all unusual but to most falls under the category of "being a lad".
Seeing most towns on a Saturday night suggests we're not in much of a position to judge others, sadly.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

Quite. What people are like in Tourist Turkey should not be confused with the reality in rural or Kurdish areas.
Actually, this is not totally about Islam but also about the sort of male-oriented society that you get in less developed societies. Google honour killing and Sikh or Hindu. Used to happen a lot in places like Scicily once too. Don't know why some live in such a dream world about the nature of less developed societies.bloggoth

The question was, is it a cultural norm among muslims to treat women and girls badly? It seems that it is in many places.Comment
