Not true - the fee increase for UK students was not reflected in the foreign fees - if anything its brought them in line.

I have links to the financial side of a well known academic establishment and they've been crying about it all year. Especially about the massive influx of chinese students and how even the university itself can do nothing to stem the tide. The number of asian students is thought to be actively discouraging UK students from applying.

However, my opinions may be biased and this may be a regional problem for the uni, I'm unsure on that one.

Also bear in mind that foreign students get university accomodation INCLUDED in the price, UK students dont. Therefore in some situations foreign students are getting the overall package even cheaper!!

University Tuition Fees | UK Fees and Student Loans for EU Students | Foreign Students

the fuzzy stuff that seems to be driving it even further in the opposite direction:

Times Higher Education - Foreign student fees: discrimination that cannot be justified

Finally, ask yourself, has the tax burden decreased as a result of tuition fees? Then whats the advantage to the UK populace? The advantage to UK business once again comes before the citizens.

Just my 2 cents, as always

You said your Sister has already finished. The new fees are for next year.

She did 4 years (1 at workplace) and had 30k of tuition fees, I'll ask her how come..

I know that 15k was living expenses.

Fees were raised to 9000 a couple of years ago now,[I thought thats why all of a sudden we are complaining about high yoof unemployment - youth who go to university are not counted in unemployment figures - am I wrong?

Edit - yes I am wrong, but 2012 is misleading - as 2011 applicants faced it - thus the massive increase in unemployment in youth.

        (egg on my face )

Lets face it the UK is deep in the poo, it has to save money somewhere. If I were starting out now I'd go for part-time or distance learning.

This, to me at least, is the kicker.

Without an education, I would have achieved zilch in life. And my background was very poor, so I feel a deep, deep sympathy for any student today faced with a similar situation.

When you look at some of the excellent work many American Universities have done, or are in the progress of doing, in making their courses available on the Internet, I can't help but feel this has to be the future of education. In my three years at Uni., I felt the vast majority of it could have been made available on-line for a fraction of the cost and effort; sure, there are parts of all courses that can't be done this way, but much of most courses can.

I'm truly hopeful that the far more widespread use of technology will help provide quality education for all in the future. We certainly have to reverse the current trend of education being and expensive privilege available only to a select few. If we carry on like this, our country truly will be doomed.

            Rant mode off.

Scoobos - fees for overseas students are massively higher than for home students. Up to over three times as much for clinical courses. It's a money spinner.

hmm is it possible to setup a private University, offering fees at say 5000 grand a year. Take on 40 students and teach them yourself.

OU is the gold standard for distance learning in the UK. Their fees are going up too (equiv to 5k for a years study) which seems a hell of a lot. I guess the difference is that you don't have the accommodation costs, and you can work and study at the same time.

Not for EU students, who will get free tuition if they study in Scotland, whereas students from England don't.
