    thats true, but isnt nuclear subsidised as well ?

      Not sure about being subsidised to be honest but as far as I know it's the cheapest alternative.

        Yeah, arguments about their efficacy aside they are pretty remarkable engineering. Bloody huge when you get close.

        I think they're quite pretty too, dotted in the countryside... function dictating form.

              Wordworth -

              I wandered lonely as a cloud
              That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
              When all at once I saw a crowd,
              A host of golden daffodils;
              Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
              Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

              Continuous as the stars that shine
              and twinkle on the Milky Way,
              They stretched in never-ending line
              along the margin of a bay:
              Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
              tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

              The waves beside them danced; but they
              Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
              A poet could not but be gay,
              in such a jocund company:
              I gazed - and gazed - but little thought
              what wealth the show to me had brought:

              For oft, when on my couch I lie
              In vacant or in pensive mood,
              They flash upon that inward eye
              Which is the bliss of solitude;
              And then my heart with pleasure fills,
              And dances with the daffodils

              TimberWolf -

              It's ok
              could do with a few wind turbines though

                William Wordsworth (7 April 1770 – 23 April 1850)

                In his day wind mills were probably at their peak. One in every town and the peasants forced to use them, even if they did have a secret quern. Then we discovered you could burn dead animals instead.

                  The older power stations were certainly "dual use", fissile material for Britains Nuclear Deterrent was certainly produced in parallel to the generation of electricity. Which of the two was "by product" is open to debate.

                    Yep, they even ran less efficiently so that they could produce more plutonium. Modern reactors are allegedly much better at producing electricity and are safer than those early bomb making machines.

                      Marine Engineering Consultant. Design and installation for offshore renewables. The vid isn't mine though, just one of my wind farm projects.
