Worked for Defence company a bit like this. Everything was blocked. And they randomly used to check peoples usage.

Worked in a few places like this, doesnt really bother me as I have a smartphone, cig breaks or actual work to do.

What is annoying is when they block the internet to the point you cant google an error code or something you need to speed up your job. Really is ridiculous.

I worked at one place that had a non-fraternisation rule for permie staff meaning they were not allowed to socialise with contractors which effectively meant they never spoke to you in the work-place either! Very sad, but true!

And some companies wonder why no one wants to work for them?

Worked with a guy who got dragged in front of manager who'd had a report from IT that he was looking at porn and provided the URL. Turns out to be a page about RS232 specifications. Nice one IT.

Seriously. How on earth can that be good for morale? Surely companies want contractors to fit and not appear separate?

Unless client was scared that contractors would tell permies how much they're rate was....
