I left the best place I have worked at (Radbroke) which was a really social, enjoyable place to be in order to come to this grim place.... I would have had to leave soon enough anyway because of the 51 week rule but boy this place sucks. Any ideas how to get through the next few months?
This perfectly descibes where im working at the moment, except its worse, the only reason im here is thats its really close to home, the rate is good and the market seems subdued at the moment.
Yes I could look elsewhere to find something, but it couldnt be nearer home and id really struggle to find a rate to make the travel time/cost worthwhile. There's also no guarantee the next place wouldnt be the similar?
I guess at the end of the day youre paid to do a job (which I do), its just a shame it cant be a bit more enjoyable in the process. On the other hand I look at all the people that are struggling with finding work and suppose I must consider my current position ok, thats not to say its working in such an environment isnt a trial.
Let me guess, one of the Caudwell mobile phone centres in Staffs, and you're all crammed into some nissen hut or barn, chained to your desks, with grim faced overseers pacing up and down with whips poised. Been there, done that, although I escaped after 3 months
I had an interview there a few months ago.
2 minutes before I was supposed to turn up the agent called me, the line manager had already called the agent "Demanding" to know where I was.
It didn't get much better after that, especially when I was asked how I would motive underlings into working overtime for free
Couldn't stand either of the people interviewing me either. Odious little ***** the pair of them

Caudwell group has never made any sense to me. What makes even less sense to me is why some people stay working there for years!? I met several good developers, designers, PMs, Analysts there and I just couldn't understand why you would want to be overworked, underpaid, treated like tulip and then told you are at risk of redundancy after all that! Really is an insane place.

I really want someone to prove me wrong - but I've also seen this - coming to the Home Counties / London from the Midlands / Australia, NZ - Every office I've worked in for the last 3 years with the exception of 1 3 month stint, have been EXACTLY what you said above , but you can add :
- There is no talent, everyone is pretending to work when in fact, theres really very little to do.

Sorry for double posting (kind of)
I had a similar experience for a job that was advertised as West London and turned out to be quite central.
Called at 6pm for a telephone interview, then rang agent at 7am to ask me to a 9am interview - got in car, at 8:45 agent was receiving calls from the boss "Make sure he's on time"
Stuck in traffic - got there late
Had the interview, it transpired that the boss used to have a team of 6, but 5 of them had left in the last 2 weeks -
boss also complained that the place was technically a "total mess" - then when I mentioned the word planning the quick response was "We dont get time to plan here, you shouldn't need it " ...
Alarm bells ringing I left , suprised to hear shortly after that I'd been offered the job; although I didn't take it.
With hindsight I regret not taking it, but still understand why I made that choice. Awful when things like this happen.

Caudwell group is based around low paid staff that want the extra money for more hours and salesmen who live on commission so need to be there early and late (just like all other salesmen / agents).
Everyone else has the same hours because the salesmen rule the roost and don't understand that most people do better work in a 7 - 7.5 hour day rather than a 9 hour day.
This place is to grim for windows - I guess they are supposed to be windows but they don't serve their purpose when they are so dirty that you can't properly see through them.
So nobodies guessed yet?
Sounds like somewhere I once did a bit of work in. A place in carrington, mancs. That really was dull, are you there?

I suggest one evening you eat a gallon of prunes, 15 hard boiled eggs, 5 fried sliced onions, a clove of garlic and 4 tins of anchovies.
The next morning just let her rip, farting as loudly and frequently as possible without soiling your undies by following through.
Offices can be such somnorific places, but with us Brits who are outwardly reserved, it only takes a small crises to bring us out of our shells and having a good bit of banter.
I recommend the farting bunker buster technique.

Welcome to the South East
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”
