Start cultivating the seeds of dissent. A word here, a raised eyebrow there, anonymous notes on the fridge...
Then sit back and enjoy the carnage. It's the best thing about being a contractor.Keeping calm. Keeping invoicing.Comment

I once had the mis-fortune of working in such a place. It was so bad it made a messy divorce seem pleasurable in comparison!
The two permies I worked with not only resented having a contractor there but despised each other so much they never spoke! The reason they hated each other was that one was an ambitious and aggressive young guy who knew nothing and the other was an older laid-back old guy who knew everything! The younger guy was trying to leap-frog the older guy who was quite happy doing his job did not intend moving anywhere!
A good reason never to be a permie!
PS: Though, I should add that most places have been pretty good!Last edited by up4it; 19 April 2012, 14:54.Comment

Let me guess, one of the Caudwell mobile phone centres in Staffs, and you're all crammed into some nissen hut or barn, chained to your desks, with grim faced overseers pacing up and down with whips poised. Been there, done that, although I escaped after 3 monthsOriginally posted by NorthWestPerm2Contr View PostI don't think you realise how grim this place is.....

What's the 51 week rule?Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment

Sounds like you're in the same place as me, awful place. I took up smoking again just to give me an excuse to get away from them every now and then and even signed back up to CUK.
My advice (which I think was given above) is drink heavily in the evenings so that you feel so tulip the next morning that you don't want any of them talking to you anyway and then huge amounts of coffee to get through the afternoon. Oh, and of course CUK and BBC news help and trying to find a Googlewhack can relieve hours of tedium.
I'm waving right now, come and say hello and we can go and have a mutual whinge.
Luckily these gigs aren't common, trick is to lay back and think of invoicing.
(Oi you sniggering at the back there, I said WHINGE!)Comment
