Kandy, hill stations, tea plantations, beach - cheap cheap cheap!

    Tone
Nuwara Ellya playing golf in the tea plantations with a caddy whose every other sentance was that was a very bad shot sir...

Kandy and the Tooth Eye temple, Elephant orphanage (for the women folk of course).

    Cracking old colonial hotels too.

    Plenty cheap too.

Might be an option, though - although I think that SA flights are operated by Virgin which has a different points system.
If you do decide to go, drop me a PM - stayed in a very nice B&B which I'd be happy to recommend.

Really not sure about Sri Lanka for a week in August. I think I'd want to be there for longer and probably when it's a bit cooler.

There is no cooler in Sri Lanka, it's always been hot as ****, or wet and hot as ****.

Agree about longer though, although if you just want to chill for a week, it's grand

Another vote for Sri Lanka. If you can handle proper long haul for just a week I'd consider Peru.

Juliaca, Arequipa and Puno (titicaca) are easily do-able in a week without feeling your constantly on the road.

But as mentioned it's a loooong way to go for a week.

The distance is the main problem - there are so many places that I want to go to, but for a week I need to be realistic.

At the moment it's looking somewhere like NYC - I wanted to go to Washington DC again, but that's been vetoed because there's "not much to do there" (WTF???) If we hadn't been to Alabama last summer, we'd probably head there again for a week, but I don't fancy it so soon.

In that case to NYC & Boston with a cheeky day at Martha's Vineyard or Cape Cod.

Vancouver + Okanagan wineries or Vancouver Island is manageable in 1 week.

                  Or Bridgwater.

Hadn't considered much of Canada. Not drinking alcohol, though, a trip to wineries might be wasted (which we obviously wouldn't be).

                    Added to the list....

What about a left field trip to Newfoundland, or New Brunswick?

                      Iceland? Plenty, plenty fun.

                      Palermo (Sicily)?

                      Cape Verde?
