Since 14th Feb I have read over 20 books on my Kindle app, at work.
I have, on numerous occasions, volunteered and asked for extra work - very little has been force coming.
I started my extension yesterday!
Apparently, they don't want to lose me as I'm very effecient at what I do (!!!)
Yep, it's public sector!
Yep, It doesn't have anything to do with the topic in question - I just wanted to tell my story, thanks for reading!

I've been in contract for just over 2 years now, 3rd extension. Contract was due to end in June but have been asked if I could do another 6 months 'til the end of the year and I only do 3-4 days a week.
I get given a task and its finished very quickly unlike the permies who keep coming to me asking for help.
I've done more complex and concise documentation than the rest of the team put together.
I get so ******* bored but I can't skive as my screen faces the door and every bugger walking past can see what I'm doing. Thank Mary, Holy Mother of Jesus for smartphones and flat rate internet.
I keep doing other departments work without telling them until its complete and then get told off by the team leader that we're far too busy for that but to continue, quietly.
Even do other contracts on the side.
But sometimes I'm really busy, but only sometimes...
Not going to leave as it pays a wonga wedge and not blowing my trumpet, but I am good at what I do, really ******* good...
“Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.”
Bored tulipless with the current gig. Unfortunately I find this more and more these days. Something to do with working for big financial institutions and big cumbersome project life cycle tulip. Thing is to be able to look like you're busy and actually not point out too often that you've got bugger all to do or it may get flagged up that you're not needed.
I have just discovered that there's a meditation room where I am now. Think I'll try walking out of the office with my notepad and seeing if it's a good place for quick half hour's kip.
Just look forward to the 2nd contract where you are brought in to a failing project because the team need a scapegoat and spend 3 months being shouted, blamed when it is canned and walked off site for failing. Much more exciting.........
And the 3rd one that gets canned when you are in reception on the first morning and find there isn't a contract anymore...
And the 4 months on the bench before securing the 4th one 400 miles away that means you have to live in a hotel away from the family....
I think I need to go vote on the How Miserable Are You thread actually... BRB....
Some might say you are just unlucky though.
"A life, Jimmy, you know what that is? It’s the s*** that happens while you’re waiting for moments that never come." -- Lester Freamon
I'm going through a really boring patch at the moment, but I am more than glad to be in contract when I look out the recruitment window and see how slow the market is in regard to my skillset.
Personally I don't really care about the content of my contract, it's not my life is just facilitates my life.
Get on with it and if you're happy with the money to run your real life then get on with it. I don't know how liquid your area of the market is but be happy to be earning.
If it's really that bad then go looking and see what the market has to offer.

Never has a man been heard to say on his death bed that he wishes he'd spent more time in the office.

Yep, get a Kindle App - it looks like you're doing documentation!
