Oil Storage Tank Disposal

Couple of gallons of petrol, lighted match and burn it off, sorted.

The idea is to run it right down before making the switchover.
Then, I will empty what I can and dispose of it appropriately.

I imagine what's left will be a lot more than you anticipate, isn't it normal to have the pump an inch above the floor or something so it's clear of sludge?

How about a high-pressure water cutter?

A 15 kilo Mix of Charcoal (Craft Shop), Saltpeter (Look for the crystals under a Manure Pile) and Sulfur in a 6:1:1 or 6:1.2:0.8 ratio.
Seal the mix in (Preferably) a thin walled steel container leaving a 10mm hole.
Place beneath tank leaving 10mm hole exposed
Place some kindling around the container and light the kindling furthest away from the 10mm hole

Run away very very fast

When you return the tank will have miraculously disappeared

Ignore people knocking on the door for several days, or preferably go on a long holiday until the furor caused by the miracle has died down.

Ps. it may be advisable to sandbag the house and keep pets indoors (Also check house insurance T&C's)

Ask the scrappy to come and collect it, they will probably do it for free / may even pay you.

Technically you can’t transport the tank with any residue: its classed as hazardous waste.

You will need to empty & clean the tank without letting the run-off enter the water systems e.g. down the drain / into the water table

You can either contact the council to see if they have an oil waste drop off point, normally at the recycle centre or contact commercial waste removal (skip hire companies) some of them will have a hazardous waste permit.

Be careful of just dumping it as it is classed as hazardous & if your seen & reported to the council it will end up costing a lot in fines.

Oh, I wouldn't dream of doing that.

I remember having a similar problem getting rid of some lime a while pack.

The council would nt take it at ant of their pips and said I hand to hire a specialist company. Very expenses dir.

I ended up using it in a mortar mix and pointed up my garden wall.
