You seem to think that Celtic will only benefit from the collapse of Rangers? Do you think all the TV money, advertising revenue and supports will still ply money into a league where there is zero competition?

Without Rangers the SPL becomes a one-team league. Sponsors and TV companies will pay even less for that.
Celtic cannot compete in Europe as it is, a reduction in income would only make it worse.
Celtic and Rangers need each other to provide at least a modicum of competitive interest in Scottish football.Comment

Originally posted by Doggy Styles View PostTotally agree, but the point is, Celtic and the rest of Scottish football suffers as well. Possibly for a very long time. Therefore all the cheering from Celtic Park, while understandable, is like cheering the sinking of the Belgrano while you are on it.Comment

Forged in the shipyards of Belfast, and arrogantly portrayed as being much grander and superior than it ultimately turned out to be.
Driven too fast by some old duffer called Smith who had left the bridge when it finally struck the iceberg.
Left Europe early.
The poor old groundsmen/caterers/stewards in steerage abandoned to their fate and left to go down with the ship whilst the wealthy passengers/players negotiated their way into sell-on clauses/lifeboats.
Craig Whyte doing an Ismay.
But they shall return from liquidation.........I give you the Newco Rangers.......
Jelly and Ice Cream anyone?

Only one Scottish team is allowed in the Champions League these days (the SPL champions), and even they have to go through the qualifying rounds in much the same way as the Latvian or Moldovan champions.
The Scots have only got one team because their UEFA coefficient has dwindled over the past few years of failure. Having only one team reduces the chances of increasing that coefficient, it is more likely to weaken, which in turn will put their team further back in the qualifying competitions.
A one-horse country, lucky to ever see the champions league, is not a football association that will attract sponsors and TV money. That will make them weaker still. It is a death spiral.
As I said before it is right and proper that Rangers are castigated for what they have done, but instead of cheering and laughing, Celtic fans (and all other Scots fans) should be angry with them instead.Comment
