If you want to understand what is behind this hatred of the West then it is very simple:
You will find that women are central to the cause of why suicide bombers kill themselves. If you read the psychology that is used they are persuaded to kill themselves by being promised that they will be rewarded with a bunch of nubile virgins tending to their every need in heaven.
And that essentially is it. What the west is doing is undermining the misogyny behind the versions of religion that these people are using to control their populations. The Israelis, the British and the Americans do not imprison or subjugate their women.

Given there are a sect of Muslims that preach that kind of hatred and have a disgraceful ideology. I think you are being narrow minded in the way you say others treat women - things have changed a lot in the last 50-100 years in the West. I was referring to those who see their own children and family slaughtered and then "lose it". The specific ideology you refer to is an evil one but it is a political one that is pretty recent in historic terms and only appeared over the last century or so.... It is one that uses religion to achieve political aims and is not much different to Christianity a few 100 years ago. The fact you use that as a point shows you know little about religion and it's history.

I may not be the Pope or AJP Taylor but I do have an understanding of human nature. If you look at the organisations behind the terror campaigns against the West and Israel they have one thing in common and that is the suppression of women. Their objections are that the freedoms that we so take for granted are to them horrific in that they undermine the fear that they impose upon their own people. Unfortunately we have too many people like you with a competely distorted sense of moral equivalence that give false creedence to these people (who are just as happy to kill their own people as they are "westerners") and their behaviour.

You said it yourself that their values and political aims are not much different to those imposed by Christianity 100 years ago. They are the ones that need to move on rather than we move back 100 years to suit them.

I don't have an issue with denouncing the people who preach hatred and violence but I do have a problem with generalisation and "painting everybody with the same brush" just because the fall under a particular religious denomination. When you visit countries in the middle-east, Malaysia, North Africa etc you will realise that the media is putting every effort into making people like yourself and others feel hate towards certain religions and people. And by the looks of the responses on the forum they have done a damn good job.
