12 year old power books are still being used productively..."See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested." -
In design - yes, marketing also very good, ease of use of software - yes, but not in hardware technology - Apple - Mac Pro - Now with faster graphics processors from AMD.Originally posted by Moscow Mule View PostApple are innovators
See this powerful graphics ATI Radeon HD 5770? Nevermind that Apple did not make any of it, just like none of Intel CPUs that the use, hard drives, memory etc - this graphics card was introduced in Autumn 2009 - Evergreen (GPU family) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Apple is very good at taking old generation tech which is very cheap and sell it as something flashy - their end users don't care and don't know such details, this helps keeping margins high without taking actual risks developing the tech.
Fine by me - if it wasn't for them sueing people using bogus patents.Comment

They use commodity hardware like everybody else?"See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested."Comment

How come I can't group apps on my Android like on iOS without having to download third party software that's possibly riddled with bugs or ads, takes up CPU/memory and might go poof with future O/S upgrades? Such a simple obvious thing to provide. (You can create folders on the home screen and move shortcuts to folders, but that isn't what I want).Comment

It's 2 years old tulip, hardly state of the art - they keep a couple of gens behind to get highest margins.Originally posted by Moscow Mule View PostThey use commodity hardware like everybody else?Comment

But can it play Crysis? Most of the time, the answer is yes.Originally posted by AtW View PostIt's 2 years old tulip, hardly state of the art - they keep a couple of gens behind to get highest margins.
To be honest, I'm willing to pay a few hundred extra quid to get OSX, so good luck to em..."See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested."Comment

Once you start looking at the cost of Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate on top of the cheaper PCs which only come with Home Premium, the Macs don't seem quite so expensive.Originally posted by Moscow Mule View PostBut can it play Crysis? Most of the time, the answer is yes.

And Macs come with a complete development environment included in the cost, not to mention a backup solution which actually works.
Oh, and the ability to display photos you have taken in their correct orientation
Spotlight beats the tulip out of Windows Search as well.

I've been using a Windows 7 machine at ClientCo.
The only explanation for it I've been able to come up with so far is that Microsoft realised they were simply not competent to create a decent UI, so they just started trying to make it as irritating as possible out of spite.
They've always given the vague impression of secretly having contempt for their customers, and I think that has now grown into contempt for their product.Comment

Not sure what iOS does in terms of grouping, but I have related Apps in folders, both on my home pages and also in the Applications menu screens.Originally posted by TimberWolf View PostHow come I can't group apps on my Android like on iOS without having to download third party software that's possibly riddled with bugs or ads, takes up CPU/memory and might go poof with future O/S upgrades?
