Fair enough then - I retract that point and will henceforth tell people I was brainwashed into atheism from a young age. I don't think the atheists will like that though.Originally posted by shaunbhoy View PostHow is it possible to be "raised an atheist" without at least some degree of brainwashing/influence being exerted?Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

I struggle to see how you can be "brainwashed into atheism".Originally posted by d000hg View PostFair enough then - I retract that point and will henceforth tell people I was brainwashed into atheism from a young age. I don't think the atheists will like that though.
Since there is no evidence for a supernatural being at all, a state of atheism would be natural for anyone who was born into modern scientific society with scientific explnations for seemingly strange phenomena.
Since there are a wide variety of human religions (montheistic, polytheistic), each of which their believers believe is the absolute truth, that originated in less enlightened times, the intelligent person is forced to conclude that they are a culturally created human artifact related to the psychological urge for explanation and making sense of the world.Hard Brexit now!

Take it up with SB then.Originally posted by sasguru View PostI struggle to see how you can be "brainwashed into atheism".
It depends how you define atheism though. I would say it is a strong belief that there is no higher power, whereas agnosticism is the default position for someone who has never really thought about the issue... in that case you can be brainwashed into it. OTOH if atheist is what you are until you decide otherwise, then your argument holds.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

That's a very weak hypothesis for a scientist to make, because it requires me to find only a single intelligent believer to demolish it. And I strongly doubt even you would claim we can't find one believer who fits any reasonable definition of intelligence.Originally posted by sasguru View PostSince there are a wide variety of human religions (montheistic, polytheistic), each of which their believers believe is the absolute truth, that originated in less enlightened times, the intelligent person is forced to conclude that they are a culturally created human artifact related to the psychological urge for explanation and making sense of the world.
note: I am aware AE doesn't agree with my faith either. That's not the point I'm making...Last edited by d000hg; 30 December 2011, 15:23.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

Since I often talk about how it's possible to see who issued reps, and it's common knowledge anyway, your assertion I issue rep with the intention of anonymity is as laughable as the rest of your attempts at adult discussion.Originally posted by fullyautomatix View Post

For Sas' benefit, FA decided that after disagreeing with him in the accounting forum over a serious discussion, the adult reaction was to engage in a personal vendetta. I presume it's how he acts at work too. He's more of a bedwetter than SY01.Last edited by d000hg; 30 December 2011, 15:31.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI'd still not breastfeed a naziOriginally posted by vetranUrine is quite nourishingComment

So what is the reason for your issuance of negative reps when the posts don't even refer to you, apart from your low self esteem and need for attention, you god-bothering cock-head?Originally posted by d000hg View PostSince I often talk about how it's possible to see who issued reps, and it's common knowledge anyway, your assertion I issue rep with the intention of anonymity is as laughable as the rest of your attempts at adult discussion.Hard Brexit now!
